Breakfast is the most important meal of the day – (remember you mother saying that?). The main reason it is the most important meal of the day is that it will kick start your metabolism and help to maintain your sugar levels throughout the day and avoid those haunting cravings!
Breakfast can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. If you havent got much time, just have a glass of pure fruit juice, a banana or a slice of wholemeal toast. Even things like scrambled eggs take only a couple of minutes to make.
If you have a bit more time, here is a couple of healthy breakfast ideas.
Cereals – Seems simple doesnt it? Look for a low-calorie cereal that is packed full of fibre such as Bran flakes, weetabix or allbran. Add fresh fruit or dried fruit to make it even healthier.
Eggs - Boiled, poached or scrambled there great. Try to avoid frying or adding oil to the cooking. Add soldiers or a slice of wholemeal toast and you’ve got a winner!
Porridge - Good old oats with semi-skimmed milk are great at slowly releasing energy and setting you up for the day!
Remember grilled foods are healthier than fried foods, poached or steamed helps to lock in nutrients. Avoid oils and low quality meals where possible.
Remember these basic tips for eating healthy:
- Replace any saturated fats with unsaturated fats such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats found in oily fish, avocados, olive oil and more.
