What are the health properties of ginger?

Ginger is incredibly healthy for the body. The ginger stem (commonly confused for a root) is most well known for it’s digestion boosting properties in helping to relieve the symptons of diarrhea, stomach pains, excessive flatulence, nausea (sailors also eat ginger tablets whilst at sea to relieve the symptoms of sea sickness/motion sickness.
In addition to this, ginger has been claimed to help circulation and relieve stress and headaches. Ginger is also known for it’s throat soothing properties when mixed with honey, lemon and hot water to create a soothing and medicinal drink.
The chemicals that give ginger it’s health properties are the “volatile oils” that also account for it’s hot, spicy effect on throats and tastebuds. The effect on the body of these volatile oils are to increase the amount of digestive fluids that helps to neutralise stomach acids. Ginger is also a good decongestant and has been linked to have anti-cancer properties.
